Privacy Policy
Effective date: July 2, 2026 · Last updated: July 2, 2026
MemoirTalk ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your data when you use the MemoirTalk iOS application.
1. Information We Collect
- Voice recordings. When you start a conversation, your microphone audio is streamed in real time to our servers for processing. We do not store raw audio files — only the transcribed text.
- Life story content. The stories, memories, and personal information you share are stored as text to build your memoir.
- Memory index. To let the app remember earlier conversations, your transcripts are broken into passages and stored together with numeric representations (embeddings) and short extracted facts. This index is private to you and used only to give you continuity across sessions.
- Character portrait (profiling). If you consent, the app builds an optional portrait — "The Person I Am" — of your character, values, tastes, and how you imagine others see you, inferred from what you say. See Section 3.
- Email address. Collected when you create an account (Sign in with Apple, Google, or email), used as your identity for sign-in and cross-device access.
- Device identifier. A device ID associates your content with your account.
- Purchase history. Records of your subscription and conversation-time purchases (processed by Apple), used to provide paid features.
- Usage & diagnostics. Session metadata and crash/performance data to operate and improve the service.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To generate your memoir stories and chapters using AI.
- To store and retrieve your content across sessions and devices, and to remember what you have already shared.
- With your consent, to build and update your "The Person I Am" character portrait (see Section 3).
- To enable sharing of your stories with family members you invite.
- To process purchases and provide Premium features such as PDF export.
- To improve the quality and reliability of MemoirTalk.
3. Profiling & Your Character Portrait
MemoirTalk can build a character portrait called "The Person I Am" — a reflection of your personality, values, tastes, and how you imagine others see you. This is a form of profilingunder data-protection law, so we want to be clear about how it works:
- Built only from your own words. The portrait is inferred solely from what you choose to share in conversation. We never buy or import outside data about you, and the "How Others See Me" section is your own imagining of how others might see you — never a real statement from another person, living or deceased.
- Consent-gated and off by default. The portrait is created only after you agree to it during onboarding. If you do not consent, the app still works fully — you keep the live conversations and your chronological memoir.
- Sensitive topics require separate, explicit consent. We do not proactively ask about, or infer, special categories such as political or religious views, health, or your views on life and death. These are recorded and included in your portrait only if you separately opt in and only from what you volunteer. You can decline this without losing any core feature.
- You stay in control. You can view what has and hasn't been captured, and you can correct or delete any individual portrait item; deleting an item removes it and lets it be re-drawn from scratch.
- No automated decisions about you. The portrait is used only to enrich your own memoir and conversations. It is never used to make decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects, and it is never sold or used for advertising.
4. Third-Party Services
- Google (Gemini) — processes your conversation audio and transcripts to power the live conversation and generate memoir and portrait content. We use Google's paid API tier, under which your content is not used to train Google's models. Subject to Google's Privacy Policy.
- Supabase — stores your account, memoir, memory index, and portrait data in a secure cloud database.
- RevenueCat & Apple — process and validate in-app purchases and subscriptions.
- Railway — hosts our backend server.
- Brevo — sends transactional email (such as sharing invitations) on our behalf.
- Sentry — collects crash and error diagnostics to improve stability.
We do not sell your data to any third party, and we do not use your data for third-party advertising or tracking.
5. Data Retention & Deletion
Your content is stored for as long as your account is active. You may delete all your data at any time using the "Delete Account & All Data" option in the app's Me tab, or by emailing us. When you delete your account, all stored data — including sessions, transcripts, extracts, the memory index (passages, embeddings, and facts), your character portrait, memoirs, and PDFs — is permanently deleted within 30 days.
6. Your Rights (GDPR / CCPA)
- Access — request a copy of the data we hold about you.
- Erasure — delete all your data via the app or by contacting us.
- Portability — request your data in a portable format.
- Rectify & object — correct or delete individual portrait items in the app, and object to profiling by declining it or turning off sensitive topics.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at support@memoirtalk.com.
7. Age Requirement
MemoirTalk is intended only for adults aged 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has provided us information, please contact us and we will delete it.
8. Data Security
We use industry-standard security including encrypted connections (HTTPS/WSS) and secure cloud infrastructure. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of MemoirTalk after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
